The aluminium casing is designed as such that it can handle cold circumstances. Perfect when you need a good, reliable torch when you go into the mountains in winter. The casing has been attached to the head band with a silicon holder. You can remove the light to end up with an individual mini-flashlight!
The Fenix HM50R derives its strength from the (included!) 16340 battery. A small Li-ion-cell that will enable the torch the shine for about 2.5 hours in the highest mode. In the lowest mode it will last about 90 hours. You can charge the battery inside the torch using the micro USB-cable. The side switch has been enhanced with a coloured LED light that will show you the current battery voltage. You could, of course, also switch the 16340 battery with a CR123A-battery. These type of batteries are even better equipped against cold temperatures.
With a maximum beam of 500 lumens you will have enough light regardless of the circumstances. For shorter distances you can reduce the beam to only 4 lumens. As such you will not only spare the battery, you will still gave enough light in a dark tent.
Please note: before use you need to remove the black disk in between the battery and the case. You need to remove this disk otherwise the light won’t work. This is the transport lock.
